A first wave starts with a conversation
Learning to surf can feel like a big step. At our family-run surf school on Kabalana Beach in Ahangama, we begin by getting to know you. Have you tried surfing before? Are you comfortable in the ocean? Are you learning on your own, with a partner, or as a family? Your answers help us plan a session that suits you. You don’t need to arrive knowing the language of surfing. Bring your questions, and we’ll take things from there.
Get familiar with your board on the sand
Your 90-minute lesson includes time on the beach and coaching in the water. Before heading out, your instructor introduces the board and walks you through the movements you’ll practise. There’s space to ask questions, try a pop-up, and repeat it without a moving wave beneath you. We explain the plan for the session and choose the area around your experience and the conditions on the day.
Small steps in the water
Once you’re ready, your instructor guides you in the water. Some moments will be about getting comfortable with the board; others will be about timing and finding your feet. A first lesson is a chance to learn and enjoy the process. Everyone progresses differently, so we focus on your next useful step rather than promising a particular result. Wipeouts, laughter, and another try are part of the experience.
What to bring, and what we provide
Your board, rash guard, and zinc are included. Bring swimwear you feel comfortable moving in, a towel, drinking water, and your usual sun protection. Leave yourself a little time before and after the session so the day feels relaxed. If you have a particular need or concern, mention it when you inquire so we can talk it through before you arrive.
